bonus game problem?

I'm in the bonus game, and need to use the pipe on the hive. But although I have the pipe and it has a green plus by it, if I click on it nothing happens. I assume I need to use the flint/fire starter on it, but without being able to "bring it up", I can't?

Any suggestions??
