What is the key to this part. I've gone over it several times with no luck and I can't move on.

I have the same problem. I wished someone would explain which
pen goes on the corks or spots and what the coins represent.
I'm baffled.

Only one colour fits one cork, if you keeping testing the corks and get it wrong, you waste a coin, once all the coins are gone then u have to start all over, even if you only have two pins left to insert. The destination cork of each colour pin does not change, so you need to remember where they were correct the last time till eventually you get them all in the right place. when they are right they glow blue, wrong, they glow red and a coin goes
