the end of the Skull pete story

The fate of the three Mermaids of Atlantis
There were three sisters in Atlantis who were mermaids. They all longed for the love of a mortal man. One day a sorcerer came to the island and gave them each a potion that he said would last for a year and a day. If they found the love of a man by the end of the year they could remain a mortal woman. If not then they could return again to get the potion again.
The oldest of the sisters was had a name that sounded like Margaret in the human tongue. She sailed the seas and found Midnight castle. There she found Pete and fell in love. What she didn’t know was that the chamberlain had also fallen in love with her. (You know that from the sad tale of Skull Pete and you also know that he disguised himself as a pirate and seduced her.)
When the first year was almost up she returned to Atlantis for the potion and was given another year to make her dream come true. She married Pete and had Arabella.

Good idea but sorry Murk is Arabella's Father as Henry is Anabel 's Father .
If you remember Murk was the wise Druid that became tired of living in Merlin's shadow and wanted to rid him from the Castle and take his place and when the Ruler The Gnome King found out his plan he banished Murk and Arabella from the Castle and all surrounding areas for no one would give them shelter, but before Murk left he summoned Medusa and had her turn The Gnome King to stone and Murk and Arabella have been seeking there revenge ever since.

When she went back the second year thinking that she needed the potion again to remain human because the mermaid traits were coming back again. The sorcerer told her that she had violated the terms of the agreement. When she asked him how she had done that he told her that she two men had fallen in love with her. She had married the man who was not the father of her child. The only way that she could remain a human was to marry her child’s true father. Margaret knew that she could not do that since she did not love the chamberlain.
She returned to the castle. She knew that her daughter would be safe in the hands of owner of the castle. She returned to the pond in the grotto and sat beside it. She knew that by morning she would be turned to stone as that what the sorcerer had told her would happen to her. As she sat there the chamberlain came into the grotto. He asked her why she was crying. She told him that it was to be her last night in the castle.
When he found out that the reason for her last night was because he was the father of Arabella he went into Mirror Lake and cursed Skull Pete. He turned him into a skeleton. When he came out Margaret had already begun to turn to stone. By morning she had surrounded the small pond. I wondered if I should tell Pete that he had been looking at his beloved all these years or if he already knew and just wanted me to find the truth of the tale for myself?

The second sister’s name sounded like Marjorie in the human tongue. She arrived at the castle a few days before the masquerade ball. She asked Pete to take her into Cloud City to get some items to complete her costume. When they got there his boat suffered some damage. The parts for the boat would not be in town until after the ball. Both of them would miss it. While they were in town Marjorie flirted with Pete and did all that she could to win his heart. She did not know that her sister had already fallen for him and that he likewise was in love with her. She had seen her sister spending a lot of time with the chamberlain and thought that they were a couple.
Pete was very attentive to her while they were there. When they left the city she was very much in love with him. When they got back to the castle she was very excited to tell her sister all about her adventure with him. When her sister asked her if she had a good time in the city she told her that she did. She told her about the man she had spent time with but did not give her sister his name.
A few months later when her sister told her that she was going to marry Pete because she was going to have his child she was shocked. How could she tell her sister that Pete loved her too. She kept quiet while they got married. When her year was up to be a human woman she went back to the sorcerer and told him what had happened. She asked if she could be turned to wood and be made part of the ship where Pete would eventually return so that she could gaze on him for the rest of her days. The sorcerer granted her wish so she became part of the ship in the harbor and waited for day that Pete would return to her.

The third sister who was called Miriam in the human tongue fell for the harbor master. Their relationship was strained from the start. He had heard of the two mermaids who had come from Atlantis trying to seduce the men of the castle. He wanted nothing to do with a woman. He was afraid that she might be a mermaid in disguise and try to lure him into the sea or something worse. She did all that she could to make him see that she would not try and do that but nothing worked.
She only had a few days left when she knew that she had to tell him the truth about herself. She told him that the two mermaids who had come to the town were her sisters. They had not come to lure the men into the sea but to find love. She told him about the sorcerer who had given them the potion that turned them into women for a year and day to give them opportunity to find true love. If the man that they loved told them that he loved them then they could remain a mortal woman and not turn back into a mermaid.
He did not believe what she was saying. She jumped into the sea and swam back to Atlantis to get something from the sorcerer that she could give to the harbor master to convince him that she was telling him the truth. She returned the next day with the proof of her story from the sorcerer. The harbor master told her that he had not slept all night. He had been thinking about what she had said.
He told that part of him loved her and part of him didn’t. He felt that he couldn’t trust her not to want to return to the sea. He could not say the words and take her to be his own. The tears rolled down her face. She walked back to the sea and jumped in. She swam one last time to Atlantis. The sorcerer saw the pain in her face. He knew that she could not live forever with the pain of a broken heart. He wanted to give the harbor master time to change his mind so he told her that once a year she would be able to go back and ask him if he had changed his mind. In the meantime she would have to sit by the shore and collect items in the boat as they came up on the beach. The last part of his curse on her was that her life would be tied to the harbor master. She would only live as long as he did. When he died so would she. So from that day forward she would gaze at him longingly from the shore. Each year she would go and see him and get the same answer. So she would return to the boat to gather more items.....

When I was talking to the mermaid I asked her about the lady in the statue ruins. She said that she was another one of the sorcerers victims. It was said that she was once human and he turned her to stone. He was in love with her and wanted her to become his bride. She was much younger than he was and not interested in him. She liked to spend time in the forest with the animals. That is why you see all of them around her statue. To this day they continue to guard her and keep her from harm.
One day she was coming back from walk in the forest when he saw her. She was talking to another man. The one that you see in the ruins. The sorcerer thought that he was her lover. He did not give her time to explain that he was a friend. In a fit of rage the sorcerer killed him. The maiden turned against the sorcerer and told him that she would never have anything to do with him.
He tried to tell her that he was sorry and did what he could to bring the man back to life but all he succeeded in doing was turning him to stone. The maiden was so upset that she began to cry. The sorcerer walked away knowing that he had lost her. She turned her head to watch him walk away. He could not bear to see her in so much pain so he turned her to stone. Now he knew that no one else would ever be able to take her from him.

He built an arbor on the other side of the park so that he could sit and gaze at her to his heart’s content. As the day’s rolled by there were others who would come to him to ask for favors but he was so lost without the maiden that he did not grant too many wishes after that. It wasn’t too long after that he began to wither away. One day the inhabitants of the island noticed that he was just a skeleton. Many of them thought that he got what he deserved for all the things that he had done to punish others.

I found the mermaid to be quite a talker now that I got to know her she told me about the doctor who came to the island here is what she told me:
When the doctor landed on the island of Atlantis he thought that he was dreaming. There was no one else alive. He wrote a message at the shore to let any passerby know that he had been there but wasn’t sure that it would do any good. He had been the only one on the life boat that had made to any kind of land.
He found that he could survive on the island as you know by fishing and eating the fruits and vegetables that he found. It was not easy because he had no one to talk to. The animals on the island were magical in nature and were able to communicate with each other in a secret language but he could not decipher it. There were clues to the language around the island but they were written in an ancient form that he could not make out.
As with most men who see the riches of the land after he had been there for awhile all he could think of was how to take what he could away. Money is the root of evil and is the downfall is it not? When he started to think about rich he could be if he sold all that he found I think that was when he stopped thinking about surviving and gave up.
Then he saw the altar dedicated to the tsunami, he came out here to look at the sea. That was when he saw the waves coming in at very high levels. He figured there was going to be another one very soon.
He didn’t think to ask the mermaid for a ride back to the mainland. It was about the time for her to go and ask the harbor master if he had made up his mind about her again. If he had his fate might have been different.
He was washed out to sea and never seen again. When the mermaid returned she found the last note that he had written to Dorothy. The pocket watch that she kept belonged to him. There were some other things scattered around that belonged to him too. Some playing cards and a fishing lure I think. It is hard to tell what else you find around the island that might have once belonged to the doctor.
