Thoughts on Dr. Lynch

[Post New]by sillyfeet on Oct 23, 08 4:45 PM
Wow, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this game. This will be a definite buy..but I think I'll wait and see if it becomes part of Octoberfest. It had that whole "Agatha Christie" type of feel (it's made by the same people isn't it?) and since I love Agatha Christie I knew I'd probably love this one too.

My good points: I like that 95% of the items make sense...no hamburgers in the middle of the ocean or harmonicas hanging out in the kitchen. I like the graphics... The background music isn't too annoying. And I love the optional items you can find for more hints: if you want to find them then go for it but if you don't want to waste time then don't. (as an aside...I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the ashes out of the fireplace in the parlor).
And yeah, it's timed...but I like timed games. Or rather, I don't mind them.

I guess the only bad points would be that the replay on it would be questionable...once you solve the investigation, well not much point to replaying. And that awful annoying "gon-gong" thing it does when you have two minutes left on the clock...I could definitely live without that. But all in all, a big from silly on this one.

I kinda like it, too. But how do you get the "acorns in a row" to stick? I've tried and tried, and they just won't work. I get the places they're supposed to go, but no joy.

When you pick up an acorn move your mouse over the bench and a shadow will appear. When you see the shadow..click. I worked from the end with the largest down to the smallest in consecutive order. It was easier that way. Good luck.

I had trouble with the Green Man puzzle on investigation #2. I'm just trialling the game so I didn't want to spend too much time on it. I found though that I couldn't select the leaves with my mouse, let alone move and rotate them. Did anyone else have a similar problem?

I had a problem with the key puzzle, when I selected a key the screen froze for about 30 seconds, then when I selected a lock the same would happen. But played the full hour trial and didn't have any more problems.
Not sure whether to buy or not, depends how many more levels there are ..........

I was able to manipulate the leaves - were you trying to pick up the leaves that were already on the tray, or were you grabbing from your own 'stash' to the left? The ones that are already on the tray are fixed.

I did have one problem with another special game, the newspaper word find - there was no 'submit' button - only 'clear'!

I liked the game, but as others have mentioned, some of the items were extremely tiny - and I've got good eyes!

Another small complaint is that the items found are still listed - with a skinny little line through them. It's hard to glance quickly at the list to see what I still need to find.

I was able to select them however this entire puzzle moved very slowly for me. It was like trying to drag the mouse through molasses. But I thought it was just my mouse.

I LOVE this about Dr. Lynch too, that the objects for the most part make sense, though there is still the coccasional odd object on a rooftop and why would that pencil be on top of that picture frame? But it *could* be, even if not likely. I have for some time wondered if a hidden object game could be made where everything made sense. Granted for it to be a challenge items would have to be pretty cluttered or colored in some way as to camoflage them, but I think this game managed nicely by keeping things in true scale, so it is as if you are standing at a distance, things of course are on the small side, which adds the challenge. The graphics are clear enough this doesn't seem "cheaty" like just hiding things in the dark or amking them so grainy as to be hard to see.

I do wish there was a relaxed mode because I find the optional puzzles more interesting than standard seek and find but I am having to skip some to be sure I don't run out of time. I'd like to play the *whole* game and can not do so with the timer, I'm just not that good. I suppose there is some replay factor there: after "learning" the environments go through another time for the optionals.

Hello everyone! I, myself can't stand looking at the little bitty tiny objects for this game. They are to small for me & always timed! Will make this game go from bad to worse for me. Old age I guess.. In my opinion? I wouldn't buy it.

Were there any programs running in the background? I get that behavior if my anti-virus program is scanning or so program is checking for updates.

You get the submit button whenever you have completed a correct word.

Have you demo'd the House of Wonders Babies Come Home? Crazy stuff there. Rooms are twisted, upside down, or spiraling. It was like going back to the 60's. Tripping.

I can't get through the tea room for the life of me, have tried 3-4 times now. I can't find the last letter for the tea - don't even know the tea so don't know what I am looking for. All the other letters are easy to find. Can anyone help?
