Engine?????

HELP! I'm playing the demo but can't seem to do anything with the engine. I already clicked on the "shiny" dust and now I'm apparently done.....nothing else will happen. My mouse moves, I can open up the cards or the briefcase but I can't figure out what is supposed to happen next............

I had to hit it more than once I think you hit the glowing particles up near the machine and then it will open and deposit the dust.

My problem with the engine was because I hit this puzzle when I was in the demo and after 4 tries I couldn't figure out the keys I skipped it so the door magically opened I don't understand the key puzzle to open the door. I know it has something to do with a clock and I'm to read the notebook but that less than fruitful information wasn't helping me very much. I'm about to replay the game and hoped someone may have some guidance on this puzzle, it was the only one I couldn't figure out.

I don't remember the dust. But can help with the keys. The key goes in the hole that matches it's color. Think of the number next to the key as the number on a clock. If it's a three, you turn the key to the 3 o'clock position. When all are correct, the door will open and you can click on the white pebbles. Good Luck
