Can't figure out how to use tools like tornado or cards with gold coins

Can't figure out how to use tools like tornado or cards with gold coins. There doesn't seem to be any help.

They use themselves when you collect them. The tornado reveals two random face down cards. The gold adds 50 gold to your total. Two little cards adds two cards to the deck. The one I can't figure out, so far, is the moon. I've collected it, but can't figure out what it does. I'm sure there's more later on, too, but I'm only at the swamp, so it'll be a while before I find them, I think.

I don't play with help enabled (I find it annoying), but you might get more info if you go to options and turn it on.
