I have a kitty who likes to help with the laundry. Seriously, he actually likes to help. After I get the clothes loaded in the dryer and set the time-dial he helps me push the start button. He's always very happy and excited after he does it...it's soooo cute!

I also have one who likes to "help" me read by lying on the page I'm trying to read. She says it's to break the spell of "that evil book-thing" that hypnotizes me and keeps me from playing with the kitties.

I'm really appreciating my kitties right now because we lost two recently, one on October 15 and one on November 12. Officially that puts us down to 16, but we are currently fostering a mama with 3 babies, and we're not sure where they will end up...

We will be going to hubby's aunt's place as usual for Thanksgiving Day.

Then on Saturday we will cook our turkey à la Julia and Jacques, with stuffing, giblet gravy, cranberry chutney, creamed onions, mashed sweet potatoes, jello salad, and Indian pudding (with whipped cream!) for dessert.

Best part of Thanksgiving is our kitties get to eat as much turkey as they want and/or can hold. It's always great fun.

That is very nice for Christians, I suppose.

However, not everyone here is a Christian, and those who wish to celebrate a different holiday have as much right to their special day as you do to Christmas.

So I shout "Have a Great Holiday Season!"

And a couple of limericks I like...

There was a young lady from Niger
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger;
They returned from the ride
With the lady inside,
And the smile on the face of the tiger.

There once was an Ichthyosaurus
Who lived when the earth was all porous,
But he fainted with shame
When he first heard his name,
And departed a long time before us.

One of my all-time favorites...

There was a little girl who had a little curl
right in the middle of her forehead
And when she was good, she was very, very good,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

She stood on her head in her trundle bed,
With nobody by to hinder;
She screamed and she squalled, she yelled and she bawled,
And drummed her heels on the winder.

Her mother heard the noise, and thought it was the boys,
Playing in the empty attic.
She rushed upstairs and caught her unawares,
And spanked her most emphatic.

This is just example number nine billion and one of why "auto censoring" doesn't work. Somebody decides that a particular word MIGHT be used in an offensive manner (that is to say, politically incorrect) and adds it to the "auto delete" category. However, a totally unacceptable word like the F-bomb can slide through because it's not a potentially ethnic or racial slur - merely extraordinarily crude and not acceptable in what was once known as "polite" society, or "mixed company" (that is men and women iin the same group.)

If somebody decides to insult someone, they will find a way to do it, and vigilance by the end users (in this case, forum members) in reporting abuse is the only real way to keep the pond clean.

As for the steamed dessert with raisins...it's a cultural thing, and mistakes in understanding those can never be avoided in a multicultural forum.

One person's hurricane is another's willy-willy.

BTW, IN RE the pond and the chicken...

I think snuff was actually referring to the "pond" of the Atlantic ocean, not our pond here.

It would be really hard to get chicken in Abilene, Kansas USA if you live in Britain or thereabouts.

*fin waves*

Hi cesse, morning all!

Cesse, how did the coffee get in your yard? *dodges flying shoe*

Another gorgeous day here. Going to be a busy one, though. We have to get all the cats and ourselves ready for our autumn shift to the lodge. We leave tomorrow, so today I have to get all the laundry done, top spot and dust all 18 of the cats, and finalize my checklist for loading the vehicles tomorrow.

But first, more coffee - not from cesse's yard...

Only "wrong" insofar as being on the opposite side of where the terrific chicken is.

Don't know why anyone would want me to hit a lake...

All right, if you insist...

POW! BANG! SMACK!

Got any spare change?

Enough for you?

My biggest recipe goof of all time:

I was making a Paraguan cornbread recipe that calls for shredded cheese and chopped, sauted onions.

Well, I didn't have any onions in the house, so i thought I'd substitute Anaheim chiles, which we had grown the previous summer and were in our freezer.

We had also grown habañeros, which I had also packaged up and frozen.

Yup, I got the wrong package from the freezer.

I ended up putting 5 (FIVE!) entire habañeros in the cornbread. One bite and I thought I was going to die. Hubby manfully struggled through one piece before he surrendered and we had to throw it out. We even doubled-wrapped it in foil and triple bagged it before putting it out in the garbage can, because we didn't want any dog or wild animal getting into it and possibly being seriously hurt.

Ever since, we have referred to that as the "Napalm Cornbread Incident".

** - If you're unfamiliar with different pepper "hotness", jalapeños are usually at 5 or 6, Anaheim chiles are about 2....and habeñeros are 10.

I'm offended that nobody outside Kansas can get Brookville Hotel chicken, and that it's such a long drive for us to get it.

Best pan-fried chicken and side dishes in the world, though.

Thanks, cesse!

I only have a few more days to bask in the calming ambiance of the new bedroom before we head out, but it will be waiting for me when I come back in November.

snuffalump wrote:... pink in itself to me is an offensive colour....

Snuff, that's the color my bedroom was before I painted it!

Pepto-Bismol pink, to be exact, except that most of it had sun-and-age faded to just an ugly, dirty pink. Walls, ceiling everything was pink.

As was the master bath, right down to clashing shades of pink counter and pink sink.

I've managed to get rid of all the pink in there (except for the sink) through a combination of paint, wallpaper, and contact paper.

Next summer - new counter and sink so that all pink will be banished.

And oh, yes, I lived with the pink bedroom for 12 years, so you can see why I'm so happy to have it blue and white with a wallpaper border of baby bluebirds on a winterberry vine.

*We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread*

princess, you qualify as an artist!

In the Metropolitan Museum of Art there is a painting that is a large canvas with the top half painted orange and the bottom half painted black. That's all.

And at their web site you can buy a print of this famous painting...for $4,500.

I'm not kidding and no, I didn't add any digits - four thousand five hundred dollars for a print of a painting that's just an orange and black rectangle.

Talk about a license to print money...

Snuff, you don't have to belong to myspace to access the page, I have it set to public.

My room is just so pretty I want to share.
