There are many things to like about this game and a number of things I disliked. I really missed the snarky, funny tone of the MCF games up until this one. Although the Master Detective does do a significant amount of detecting, we just get little glimpses of his/her thought processes and she seems more like an assistant to the psychic. I like Lea Thompson, but she overacted horribly throughout the game and the character was alternately boring and irritating. It would have been a lot more fun, I think, if the Ghost Patrol crew had stayed (without the psychic) and had bungled its way through the game with the detective having to save them, correct their blunders, etc. I love morphing objects but the ones in this game were terribly hard to find; I had better luck clicking around at random rather than actually being able to see them.

That said, I still found the game mostly intriguing and enjoyed playing it. I'd recommend buying the CE; can't imagine how you could get through without it. (I like the strategy guide just fine, despite the disapproval many other fishies are voicing.)

Please, Big Fish, in the next MCF game, return the funny, cool and (mostly) unflappable Master Detective to us!

I really liked a few things about this game: The ability to jump quickly between locations using the map, the map itself, the graphics (I'm surprised so many people thought they were just OK or not very good) and the little extras like the cassette tapes and the achievements. Unfortunately, the game also has some major problems (at least for me): It's not at all as scary as it seemed it would be, the ending is just plain wimpy and the bonus game has nothing going for it. If you want it, I'd recommend you buy the SE on sale, the CE just isn't worth it.

I don't really have anything unique to say, but want to add my kudos to Elephant for another great game. I liked this one even better than the first Surface. Exquisite graphics and a refreshingly different storyline. In many games, I start to feel "lonely" as I struggle along all by myself as the detective or whomever with no interaction with other characters. In this one, the ongoing presence of the nurse and Noise kept me engaged. I loved the fact, all the voice overs were excellent. Thanks, BFG, for bringing this to us!

It's hard to believe more people aren't reviewing this fun game. I completely agree with granyjeri, it's terrific. The graphics are great and I love Larry and the wonderful sense of humor in the game. It's a great break from the hidden object games we usually get.

If you're weighing buying the CE or the SE, my recommendation is the SE. I bought the CE and never once used the strategy guide; the hints are very generous, and as noted in other reviews, even give you something akin to directions for reaching the location where the hint is to be used. The CE does offer bonus game play, but it's just an added story— not necessary for solving or finishing the main part of the game.

Aside from that, the graphics in this game are superb. I also like the mix of live action and stills. I found the story kind of stupid, but those more into sci-fi than me might enjoy it.

"My hint quit working 3/4 through the game. All it says now is "maybe there is something to do elsewhere" with no pointer. Without the pointer, whats the use of playing the game? I never play the hard mode.

I encountered that, too, I think it does it when you are too far away from an "active" area. Just keep moving around in the game, going to different locations, and when you get close enough to the next hog or mini game or whatever, the hint will start showing you arrows or highlighting a spot again.

I love this game! The creepy music, the soul sucking monster and especially that horrible "He's watching you" song scared me perfectly! Bravo to Top Evidence
Studio and to BFG!

An added note to my fellow fishies: The hints are very generous in the SE version, and there doesn't seem to be any loss in not having the bonus game, so if you're wondering whether to buy the CE, my vote (for what it's worth) is no.

I wonder if the missing gem is something you'd find in the CE...anybody know?

"Confusing game, but I bought it, so I will play it. I cannot find the lock in the Marduk temple. What kind of game doesn't have hints?????"

LionRosie, there is a hint button, it's on the bottom fairly close to the right. It is only available when you are doing hidden object scenes, otherwise, it disappears.

Just wanted to compliment BFG on having a moderator respond to each tech question. I don't know when you started doing this, but it's great! Unfortunately, my Mac version of the demo keeps crashing 40 minutes in and I've gone through the troubleshooting steps in the Game Crashing article to no avail. I may or may not continue by contacting the tech specialists as suggested (I don't have a huge amount of time to keep pursuing this) , but I do appreciate having the suggestions so easily at hand.

dobbiemijnboekle, what do you mean by "mac button"? I'm having the exact same problem as megwoman25.

I also just downloaded the Mac demo. In the HOG scene in the dining room, I'm unable to click on the game pieces. The hint shows I'm clicking the correct item, but it doesn't work. Looks like this kind of thing is a problem in other locations, too. Any suggestions?

Just had to add my two cents after tackling the demo twice. What an awful, awful game. Boring and irritating. I got stuck in the art class, just couldn't figure out how to make it work and there were no directions. Started to lapse into a coma and quit. I've actually enjoyed a few of the HdO demos and bought one of their games, but this one is horrible, and not in a good way.

Ridiculous! I enjoyed the game well enough, but am so disappointed at the lack of any kind of ending. Had to check here to see if there was something I missed, but I guess not...

Terrible, terrible game. Boring and horribly slow. The graphics are so-so and the mini games are dumb. I dumped it about halfway through the demo. Sorry, BFG!
