This game sounds really interesting! ...the others.... not so much. Do I have to buy them in order?

I just finished Shadow and I'm really wondering if the sequel answers the questions the first one raised like what happened ot the freakin' town, why did the artist eat the raw fish, etc? I don't want to buy if it doesn't significantly add to the story. Please advise...
