There is a thread called "Social Code", where people looking for friends can post their friend code. You can use these codes to send friend requests.
Best to start from the most recent one and work your way up.
The last one is here:

No, it can't be fixed. This is a common problem/bug in the game that many new players encounter.
If you win a tool (like the gloves), you must use it immediately, or you lose it. Sometimes you can go back and win it again, but not in this case.
You are stuck, and the only thing you can do is restart the game.

I have copied these instructions from another post how to do a restart without losing coins, gold and collections:
"
Turn on game, log in
Disconnect from internet
Hit NEW GAME under the gear on top right side of main screen.
Play a few of the quests
Reconnect to the internet

You will lose all building supplies, inventory items, upgrades, and resources

THERE IS NOT GUARANTEE this will work but several others report it works. If steps are not followed exactly it will not work and you will lose the coin, gold, and collectibles.
"

Before you do this, use up all your resources, food and keepsakes to win useful collectibles.
Additional note: disconnect from internet also includes disconnecting Wifi.

It's a long time ago for me, but I seem to remember that energy cost goes up if you get to a higher level for that HOS. So if you were at conoisseur and you level up to professional, the cost goes up.
Maybe someone that has restarted their game can confirm that ?

You speed up the energy refill if you use gold to buy a better car.
The truck gives you an energy point every 3 minutes.
It will cost you a lot of gold, but it is worth it if you play for a long time.

Also, try to increase your maximum energy. The higher your maximum, the more your pizzas and lasagnas will give you. Try to buy and use as many macaroni and cheese as you can

You level up by collecting your reward each and every day, without interruption.
If you skip a day, you get set back.

The glitch is still there.
No changes have been made to this game since May 18, 2015, and no updates will be done anymore. Further development of this game has been abandoned.

A tip: if you do the Clay Tablet first, you can find as many as you want without the risk of ending the quest.
Get all your Clay Tablets first, and only then put up the banner and accept the reward.

No, if you don't have internet, you cannot participate in the events. The special quests will not show.

You are thinking right: it's a glitch.
Those items are of no use, and you can ignore them.
the same problem occurs in some other scenes too.

When playing Charleston, WV in Picky Shopper mode, there are 15 items that always have to be found:
caduceus, dumbbell, snail, scissors, crumpled paper, shell, watering can, rolling pin, sunflower, guitar, toy blocks, dragonfly, envelope, moon, toothbrush.
When some variable items appear (fire extinguisher, tv), they have to be found also.
So of the 22 to be found, there are only a few that you don't know beforehand.

In Margaret's House, GA in Picky Shopper mode, you always have to find these 20 items:
holster, umbrella, cupcake, sword, gyroscope, thermometer, vase, dart, spear, telephone, bowling pin, briefcase, baseball, phonograph, skull, barrel, record, rabbit, architect T-bar, tea cups.
When some variable items appear (totem, ...), they have to be found additionally.

When playing these scenes, I make it a game trying to predict what the next item will be and already move my cursor to that item.

In Pensacola, FL in Picture mode, all the items to find are always in the main scene.

This problem is often due to a lack of memory.
Some programs use up a lot of memory, even after closing the app. Rebooting can help in that case,

If the pictures show that you have won the car wash materials, you should go immediately to the Junk Yard. If then the items are not available in the top left corner, you are stuck and I suggest a restart. There is nothing customer service can do about that.

Go back to Bridgeport, Connecticut and win the car wash materials again. Then go immediately to the Junkyard.

Here is a thread that explains about opening most of the mini-scenes in the cities:

The answers you seek may be in this old thread:
http://forums.bigfishgames.com/posts/list/340929.page

Short summary:
Some quests are out of order; you may need to do other quests in your queue before you get to the quests that direct you to find the items you need in the Hotel.
A warning: make sure you use the items you find immediately, do not quit your game in between or you may lose the found item.

In the 'Helpful links...' thread, second posting, are several lists of collectibles and where to find them.

Look at the messages you posted yourself:
In the top right you will see buttons with "quote", "edit", "pm", ...
among those is a red button with a white cross. You can use that to delete your message.

aussie_Dot wrote:A good tip posted by Dirk_Tee in 2016. It is another workaround instead of "X" out via the daily or another quest that is not in the Christmas Event.

An additional note to quest 11:
If you play the two parts of the quest in reverse order, you don't run the risk of accepting the reward and closing the quest too soon.
So play the Hotel, Ohio scene first, as many times as you like (or can bear) to get your Elf Lunchboxes, and only then play the Christmas Alley scene and accept the reward to finish the quest.

A ghost from Christmas past

Another tip: If there is only one special quest for the day (and because of aussie_Dot's excellent work, you know beforehand if there is one or more), even if it is a multi-part quest, you can quit the game without finishing the quest. When you come back to the game later that same day, the quest will be there again for you as if you did not play it yet (it will show as a new quest). That way, you can spread your work over the whole day, instead of playing all rounds in one go. But make sure you fulfill the quest and claim the reward before the strike of midnight !

You probably did get the key, but didn't use it immediately.
If you don't use an item right away, you lose it.

I looked through old threads
and found this info for you:
"
Opening the Secret Library mini-scenes

All the quests are part of a series of quests called Rare Books Library

1) Opening the chest
You will receive a quest from Adalia.
The first part of the quest will tell you to find the Chest Key (Play the Carnival, Kansas).
The second part of the quest will tell you to unlock the chest.

2) Cleaning the Window
You will receive a quest from Adalia
The first part of the quest tells you to find a window cleaner (Play Oldstein Bank)
The second part of the quest tells you to clean the window.

3) Unlocking the Door
You will receive a quest from Martin.
The first part of the quest tells you to find a library card (Play Botanica Al Fresco).
The second part of the quest tells you to unlock the entrance to the Secret Librabry.

YOU MUST PLAY BOTH PARTS OF THE QUEST IN THE SAME PLAYING SESSION. DO NOT EXIT THE GAME UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ENTIRE QUEST.
"

Go back to the Carnival, Kansas and see if you can win the key again.
Then immediately go to the Library to use it.
Make sure you have enough energy to do both quests before you start.

If you cannot get the key again, you'll have to restart.
There is a way to restart without losing your coins, collectibles or gold (but you do lose food, keepsakes and experience).

Did you turn in your Thanksgiving collections ?
There is no quest telling you to do that, but it counts as an achievement.
