The chests certainly are a mystery. I clicked on mine...nothing. Logged out and in (losing the Classic Paint that cost me two gold) and clicked... nothing.
Seems I have a dud.

This game is inscrutable.

Scratching my head in (not much) wonder,

I would really like to know what happened to my review?
I gave a balanced assessment of the game. Many of the comments are much more negative than mine were. Many of the reviews that you can still see date back to September 2013 and the game has changed a lot since then.

Hopefully pigs will fly. I can't see much sign of patience here, only frustration and anger.

From where I am sitting it seems the developers are putting their energy into what suits them. The requests of the players have been ignored.

The game continues its downward slide.

The Developers sit in arrogant silence.

Incredulous,

One scene at a time would be a better outcome than another long wait. We have had single scenes before (the bonus scenes). Players have waited long enough for new content.

The last Scavenger Hunt was inferior and lacked imagination.
I hope that they don't plan to rehash the same thing each month.

Bored and bred,

If you want some Big Fish Games insight have a look at the blog threads on this page. Towards the bottom of the page there is a Facebook Logo and a Twitter Logo.

Just below that is a tiny link to blog. Click on that.

You will see an article
"2014 Mobile Gaming Stats: Where We Are & Where We’re Going"

I think that the game is being adapted to this market at our expense.
They need BIG objects on a smaller screen

Below that is another article

"2013 Gamers Survey Results: Demographics, Platforms and Smartphone Use"

...not our demographic but where the money is.

It seems that we are Beta testing the game and paying for the privilege.

I revise what I said earlier. The choice should be

A. Do you want to play in Classic Mode?
B. Would you rather play in Ugly Stupid Mode?

...and then they would charge you 10 gold either way.

The solution is simple. Give players the choice of playing in the "Classic Style" or choosing the "Simplified Style" just as they can choose which manor they want to play from the opening screen.

Maybe the developers have this in mind. Who can read the minds of the devs? Unfortunately, as with many things to do with Dark Manor they have only managed to simplify the first few chapters and are not in the position to offer a complete choice that would cover all the chapters. Therefore we get the changes like them or not.

Classically simple,

The developers are systematically destroying the art work in the earlier scenes while ignoring players requests in the later scenes. Why are they doing this? No one will say. The developers will not communicate with the players. Even the mods are given only a sketchy idea of what is going on.

Why are they designing scenes and then going back to modify them? I suspect that they are looking for new markets for their product and the version that we have played is not the look they want if they are to capture new markets.

The scenes we have played will all be slowly changed. We are the beta testers.

The newest scenes are still written in the old style not the more cartoonish style where objects are like stickers on the screen. No doubt these scenes will be eventually changed as well. If they wanted the "stickered" look for valid reasons such as players find them too difficult to see then the latest scenes would have been written that way.

We play them, we test them, the developers then modify them.

What do you think?

Sticky business,

I have started a new manor and find myself looking at decorating with the same stuff. With the smaller elements you can do some new things. The hot coal paths were certainly a step in the right direction. It is the paths and fences and the gardens that make the manors unique.

We have Attractions, Enigmas, Ornaments and Paths. What about a whole new category, call it Objets d'art, Curios, Anomalies whatever. Just add some variety.

I'm considering putting a suggestion to the developers for an occasional variation to the daily gifts that advanced players can send.

The free gifts (some prices approx because they have a red X through them at the moment) are:

15 energy
1500 silver
........
MDF (cost to buy 3 gold)

wood bench (cost 358 silver)
corrupted well (cost 478 silver)
tulips (cost 260)
mysterious crate (1534 silver)
tri torches (cost 1876 silver)
giant agave (2412 silver)

total..........3 gold / 6918 silver
...........................................................................................
What about for a change...

15 energy
1500 silver
........

blood mushrooms (cost 4 gold)

lamp post (cost 412 silver)
burning bush (cost 458 silver)
morada flowers (cost 1600 silver)
box of fury (cost 1240 silver
white roses (cost 1054)
calla lilies (cost 2082)

total..........4 gold / 6846 silver

What do you think?

Evenhandedly,

Balderdash

I just picked up my coffin.

Some of my neighbours (who I know play every day) sent gifts but are listed as "Played 1 month ago".

Hi papa_pahs ,

Sometimes the suitcase inventory sign appears, sometimes not. For me the only way to restore it is to log out .
