Lately I have gotten a couple of games, the latest being Joan Jade, that refuse to let me play in "windowed" mode and tell me my screen resolution is too low. However, the default (and highest) screen resolution on my laptop is 1280 x 800 which is higher than the regular 1024 x 768 resolution that I thought games usually use. Does anyone know why the games would be telling me my resolution is too LOW?
Also, does anyone know how to tell what resolution a particular game is using? Other than asking the developer, that is.
I've looked on the support pages and can't seem to find anything that addresses this particular issue. TIA! |

When I played this one a long time ago, I can't remember feeling that the turtle was slow. If I remember correctly, the tutorial part of the game happens at set points as you're playing along. When something new becomes available that you can do or that you need to watch out for, it will tell you as you pass that particular point which is identified with a sign of some sort...can't remember what it says though. Also, you can sometimes get faster movement if you make Ozzy jump instead of just running. He will only shoot and spin after he passes a particular point in the game for each one so if you can't get him to shoot or spin yet, it's because he doesn't need to do that until later in the game.
HTH!

I snipped some the quote to save space and because my comment isn't about a particular game or even whether I'm for or against CEs in general. I just wanted to say THANKS Picman! Thanks for giving us a little more insight about how particular games are chosen to have CE versions made...specifically the part about having to hit a certain threshold score on beta survey results.

Hi there and welcome to BF!
Big Fish always gives us standard editions of the CEs. These usually come out 2-3 weeks after the CE, but sometimes it takes a little longer.

....cont.... and the parent needs to be aware of these changes, but having the individual time with them shouldn't change and will show them that you care about THEIR interests. I have seen that even though as kids get older, they tend to prefer spending time with friends their own age, they also CRAVE (even when they say they don't because it isn't "cool") individual fun times with their parents.

I am a very firm believer in DISCIPLINING children. I am NOT so sure that spanking is a viable option for that today. I don't have children of my own, but I have baby sat and worked in some form of child care (usually as a volunteer) throughout most of my adult life. I once had a job a day care center, and we were told we weren't allowed to even gently smack the hands of 2 year olds. At the time, I thought that was crazy, but I was much younger then.
I see 2 things as being the most devastating problems of discipline today. One is anger when disciplining leading to extreme discipline for the situation causing fear (not respect) and uncertainty in a child. The other one is INCONSISTENCY especially when a child is very young as to the severity of the situation AND as to whether discipline (in whatever form) is applied at all when it should be and there's a rule in place or whether it's followed through on if it's an extended grounding, etc. I put inconsistency in caps because I see it as probably THE most important part of discipline. I'm not saying there are never extenuating circumstances because I know very well that there are, but these circumstances should be discussed with the child and reasons (not excuses) given as to how/why things are going to be different in a particular situation. Kids CAN and DO understand much more about this type of thing than we sometimes give them credit for. Spanking concerns me because of the anger that is usually present to a certain degree (whether the parent admits it to themselves or not) when disciplining a child. I also think being a parent versus being a friend is extremely important...AS LONG AS the child knows without a doubt that they can come to a parent with their problems and not feel rejected or thought less of as a person because they have a certain problem. I firmly believe (because I've witnessed it so many friends lives) that a parent can still be a PARENT without making their child feel "put down" or rejected by them, but it takes building a good relationship with them BEFORE problems arise and being there for them as their ADULT parent. Part of this comes from just spending fun times with them and not being too busy to or too adult to join in their make-believe games or other favorite things of theirs when they are very young and then continuing to create fun times with just you and them as they grow up. What constitutes fun for them will, of course, change as they get older, ....cont... |

Hmmm....in that case, it seems like a school official should escort her to class instead of "sending" her...that is if they really care about her being there. Sending the mom to jail because of the child's truancy isn't going to do a thing except create even more problems and certainly isn't going to keep the child in class! |

I totally agree with Cesse that it is a sign the QA process at BF really works. Unfortunately as good as it is, not all problems can be found through QA because of all the different computer configurations out there. I know that BFG tests for the most common ones, and I think I've read they have about 100 different configurations they do testing with. Most likely Eden's Quest ran fine on those test systems. Apparently, the new Treasure Seekers isn't at this point. So..if EQ ran fine on the test systems and still had the number of problems reported that it did, and TS is likely still having problems with the test systems, can you imagine how many more problems there might be if it was released anyway? I'm just basing this on what I've read in the past here when these things have happened and have been questioned.
As to why the CE edition wasn't pulled and the plain one apparently doesn't work right at this point, I can only say that I think the same thing happened with the Dire Grove regular version. Again, these are just my educated guesses based on things I've read here in the past and are definitely not anything official. LOL! |

Did you know you could also use the keyboard to rotate? I think it's the A and D keys. |

This is a great and very unique Mahjongg game!! The 3D is not like any other 3D Mahjongg I've ever seen because the board itself is 3D.
Amy, thanks for the tip about being able to play without a timer. I blasted through the demo nonstop because it was so much fun AND different, although I had to play one of the stages 2-3 times to make it through within the time so it's nice to know there is an option to turn it off. Plus, this is so different, I want to take the time to play and look at the board, etc., rather than racing through to beat the timer. And Katy, thanks for the tip about being able to change tilesets. I didn't realize you could that. When I went to the menu, I only wanted to turn off music and change to windowed and didn't really pay much attention to the rest of the options.
I agree that the 3D part takes some getting used to as to which tiles are free and which aren't. I clicked a few "unfree" tiles as I went, but there didn't seem to be any punishment. I finally figured out that in the upper left corner it gives a picture of the tile you've clicked so when you rotate the stack to find a match you don't also have to remember what the one you can't see looked like. I wasted some time flipping the stack back and forth because I couldn't remember which tile I was looking for. As for length, I had to replay a stage a few times, but I only got to the 2nd stage in the 2nd dimension before the demo ran out. Actually, I quit the game to see how much time I had left, and it must have run out at the exact time I quit. Definitely, don't just toss it off as another Mahjongg or 3D Mahjonng (wish I could spell that word without having to think about it! ) game because it isn't at all. Very different and well worth checking out!

Picman has said in the past that this ability will come later on with a new version of the Game Manager. I THINK I remember reading about a time frame of Spring/Summer, but that might have changed.

If you're asking about your free game coupons, the My Game Club page does not list those. I got confused too for awhile and couldn't remember if I'd used a free coupon or not a couple of times so I started making a list of my own in a separate document that I keep on my desktop. I enter each free coupon code I receive in email (or wherever) as soon as I receive it with the date or reason I received it, and the date it expires. When I use the code, I change the expiration date to the date I used it and add the name of the game I used it for.
That's the only way I could manage keep track of these without calling CS all the time to ask them what I had, and so far I've managed to avoid calling them for this reason. I don't like deleting the emails once I've used them because the emails are an "official" record of receipt (to me, anyway), and I have a TERRIBLE memory for things like "Did I do this or just think about doing it?", etc. HTH!

No, I would definitely not participate in a pay-to-play environment nor would I like to see BF go this route because I'd be afraid it would affect the ability to buy and own my own games. I don't want to be required to to have internet access to just play something I've already downloaded as there are times when that might just not be possible. Also, I would feel like since I paid a one-price fee to play any games, I would have to play constantly to get my money's worth, and I definitely do NOT want to feel that type of obligation!
Even though I would like to spend even more time playing, I simply can't do that and also take care of things in real life that need to be taken care of.
Just my thoughts!

I'm not a BFG techie (or anywhere else either actually
), but I have some friends who work in IT for other companies. Most of the people I know who work as network specialists have jobs that either require you to be on site at the company you work for on their own network or work for a company that does IT support work for other companies and travel locally to those other companies. In other words, most network support generally has to be done on site because it involves working with the computers there and laying cables, etc. There MAY be other types of network support that can be done off site, but I'm not aware of them.
As for programmer/analyst, my personal guess is that this is where you would start if wanting to work for companies like BFG since it involves learning how to actually use program languages to write program code. HOWEVER, this is only a guess as far as BFG is concerned, and I'd really like to hear an answer from them on this myself. From what I've gathered from talking to people and reading different websites, etc., programming for games is a bit different than regular programming because graphics are such a huge part of the picture.
I have done some programming in BASIC back in the days (LOL!) so I do know a little about what interests and abilities are important. I would consider one of THE most important things would absolutely have to be attention to detail. I also found when doing BASIC that it requires the ability to think logically in a progression and then analyze why what you wrote didn't work the way you thought it would or wanted it to. Sort of an ability to take things apart and put them back together again a different way that works. As for myself, I've never worked officially worked in an IT department, but I've helped out a LOT of co-workers with their computer issues at various jobs, and I always tried to make friends with whoever the tech support was for the company I was currently for. HTH!

And, I believe I've seen Picman say that the number of downloads both to the same machine and to different machines is now unlimited as long as you do them through your account page....but I could be wrong about that.

Yep, I finally finished the game also. Don't be afraid to use your freebie clubs...just use them wisely. And, you might be having problems if you haven't bought any of the available things for sale in the clubhouse.

Princess, I love kids, but if I were in your situation, I would be VERY frustrated as well! I have done babysitting before though not as a full-time thing in my home. However, I have had many friends with kids, and even when I wasn't their sitter, I KNOW they would have INSISTED on paying whoever it was for the extra time their kids were there!
I think part of your frustration is coming from not being compensated or appreciated for all the EXTRA care you provide, and I think you SHOULD charge for the extra hours....maybe a lower rate, but at least charge them something! From what you've said here, I think you are VERY MUCH being taken advantage of with all the extra hours you do without charging for them. If these are friends, maybe you could negotiate something else, but if they are clients who have become friends, I think you should give sufficient notice that your rates will be changing and after a predetermined time period, make the changes/additions. I would venture to say that with additional charges in place, you would get at least a bit more time off.
And yes, I do think it's a generational thing about not getting stuff done with kids around, but I also think there are many in that generation who do not follow that pattern. Actually, I think it depends a lot on how the parents were raised. If they saw their parents getting stuff done with them around, then they will find a way to make it happen for them and their kids. If not or if they never had to do chores growing up, etc., then I think they will be more likely to be in the group that can't get things done with kids around. Hang in there!

Ummmm.....you posted about the update eliminating the progression block in the phonograph garden level in both the Eden's Quest forum and Time Riddles forum. I believe the phonograph garden level is in Time Riddles. If so, what problem does the update for Eden's Quest resolve?
